And what seems to be the problem here? He is within his self enforcement area and he is allowed to park as he wishes. The placard allows him to do so. If this were not the case then the poster of this violation would have stopped posting years ago but as one can see this must be the 100th time this supposed violation has been posted on this site. Yeah, perhaps the 101th posting will finally get some action on his end.....Yeah right.

Ah, yes, the fabled SEZ! Maybe you can help me -- I'm trying to find out where in the law (or police regs) SEZs are defined. Personally, I think they're bogus, but I'd love to see something written either way.

It strikes me quite funny that the haters of the police of "professional courtesy" will never understand that this is 100%. I applaud them for trying to get rid of it but it will never happen. As the above poster mentioned, there is no summons on this car for a reason. GET USED TO IT.

Antwon - I don't hate cops. However, when those who are entrusted by society to enforce the law constantly break the law (much less actually know what the law says), then we have a problem. Those people ought to be called out, re-trained, disciplined, fired, arrested, etc. This is increasingly happening -- cops like this one and other uncivil servants are being brought to task for their dangerous, illegal and hypocritical actions (yes, there is a lot more work to do). So, actually, it's more a question of whether you will be able to get used to this reality, and not the other way around.

"every right to park illegally..." I'm having trouble parsing that sentence. Prove it -- the burden's on you, not me.

And yes, actually, it IS changing.

The burden of proof is actually your burden, lawandorder. Every law enforcement worker knows what flies and does not fly with a self enforcement area. You seem to be dilusional in assuming that we have to prove something that already exists. When you post a picture of a placarded car parked on a sidewalk devoid of a summons you prove my point. Now it is your turn to prove that it is illegal to park in this manner within a self enforcement area. Where is your proof Law....WHERE? All I see are many pictures of cars without summonses and yet you claim this is illegal and these actions have been going on since before you been born. You claim change is coming when in fact there is anything but. Please understand that self enforcement areas are permisable by the Mayor himself. These areas are not in danger of being extinct any time soon. Just enjoy the sights law and order.

Look, he probably shouldn't have parked that much in the crosswalk but: #1 walk around the vehicle (if you can muster the strength), and #2 it appears he left the curb cut intact for wheelchairs, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Many people are cyclists on this website and this shouldn't be an issue with them because you aren't supposed to bike on the sidewalk. I hope one of you gets your camera broken in front of the 13 one day for this nonsense. I guess there was no reason for him to park there right? I mean there must have been another place to park on that block. I mean you only have 13 Pct officers/detectives/sergeants/lieutenants/CO/XO/marked RMPs/unmarked cars/ESU 1 trucks and 2 civilian spots in front of the precinct, right? Plenty of parking for all! Great work lawandorder. You are about as ridiculous as JimmyJustice yelling at traffic agents for making a u-turn when no other vehicles are around and parking by a fire hydrant to get something to eat when they are a mere, I don't know, 10 feet from the vehicle. Spare us. Can we choose a different block please? We get your gripe with this block, give it a rest. Find me a block where parked vehicles with plaques are causing a severe traffic issue and we'll talk, okay?

so many words that ultimately fail to offset the selfish, illegality of the act and to boot it is often dangerous as well.

Tag and tow.

I am still waiting for someone to explain why these cars do not have any summonses. Surely after all these years the media has picked up on this. Perhaps the supposed change is just around the corner. Yeah, dream on. Self Enforcement areas are real and to the average citizen they are fake up until they try to park in these areas and get their Honda Fits/Smart cars summonses and towed solely based on the lack of a placard. In and around these self enforcement areas law enforcement entities are not required to adhere to the general traffic regulations. Its a no fly zone for the average citizen but not us. We who enforce these laws will not summons one of our own but make no mistake anyone that is not part of the group will be summonsed and towed at their own risk.
