Weekend Pump Parker

Observed by FedUp on Sun, Mar 18 2007

This cop from the 94th Precinct repeatedly parks at this fire hydrant in front of an elementary school EVERY weekend. He doesn't move it for 2 days. I've called the local precinct (94th) and they said they have given him a ticket (false). I've gone to the local fire house and they haven't done anything either. I've called 311 and they keep telling me to contact the precint. Just because he is a cop doesn't give him the right!

Nothing a tow truck and impound yard could't summarily resolve.

Parallel to hopefully getting results from this site, you could call your local Community Board's District Manager. You could also try calling the Precinct out at one of their monthly public meetings.

I was told that the vehicle needs to be ticketed before it can be towed. Our precint (& his) must be to busy on the weekends to give out tickets!

I often park my motorcycle like this. I don't even want to know if it's legal in Chicago. I see lots of other people doing it and I only park between two cars when there's plenty of room -- both because I'm polite and because I don't want a car knocking my bike over trying to get in or out of a parking spot.

And, seriously, parking is one of the main reasons I ride a motorcycle in Chicago. It takes 15-20 minutes off any journey that involves trying to find parking. It took Shaun half an hour to find a parking spot near our house last night.

another of the problems with permits is the family members of retired officers use them.

I think that nobody is talking about all these fire hydrents that havent been used for the last 30 yeare, ( sometimes 5 to 6 on a block, taking away valuable parking spaces. also these bus stops that take away half a block worth of parking spaces, then when the bus arrives most of the time stops in middle of the street, not even using the bus stop. Therefore, I think, remove the hydrants and the bus stops, and new york will have more of the much needed parking spaces.

#6- New York needs fewer (motor vehicle) parking spaces, not more, and the ones that do exist need to cost more. The problem is that some civil servants are illegally making their own parking spots. Thus, this website.

I've never seen a bus stop take up half a block before. Where have you seen this? The reason why buses stop in the middle the street is usually because somebody is illegally parked in the bus stop. That is certainly no reason to remove bus stops. If anything, it means we need to: 1) crack down on illegal parking, and 2) build bus bulb-outs so that buses don't have to pull into the curb. This, along with other Bus Rapid Transit improvements, will improve bus performance time.

well just playing devils advocate. if the civil servants are using their permits to park illegally doesn't that open more legally spots for non permit holders.

#9: Sure, but I think fewer parking spots is probably more a more immediately achievable goal.

#5 - where did you get your info? NYPD restricted permits are only offered to Active NYPD employees and some community oriented clergy and such. One permit per officer, no permits for family, let alone retired officer's family.

FDNY unions give out cards that look like parking permits to their members and occasionally members family... we all no the legality (or lack there of) of those "permits".

If you are referring to the wallet sized PBA cards and such occasionally seen on the dashboards of car i've yet to see an officer not ticket a vehicles that was illegally parked because there was a card on the dash.

There are summons quotas, as much as the city denies it.

#3 yes, a vehicle must be ticketed before it can be towed, and it can't be towed for all parking violations.

Maybe your hovel will burn down. Thus doing you a favor. Driggs street is like a slum ghetto area.

And if his hovel burns down, it will a combination of hydrant parkers and frozen hoses as well as frozen sidewalks, just like that enourmous fire in the Rockaways a while back.

I see snow in the picture which makes hydrant parking especially disrespectful
