NYPD Has Written Multiple Plate Numbers on Expired Permit

Observed by BicyclesOnly on Thu, Mar 22 2007

How many ways has this guy got it wrong? His restricted permit indicates he's from the 30th pct. on 155th Street, so what's he doing here on 83rd? He's in a no standing anytime zone, which the permit would not let him park in even on West 155th Street. The permit's expired, and he's written in two different plate numbers (all but first letter obscured).

Those of you posting on this site need to wake up and read the Presumption of risk, waiver and release agreement listed at the bottom of this and every page on this website. They are basicly telling you that if some sort of action is taken against you, you are on your own. And they will not go down with you. If someone gets hurt or killed because of something you posted on this site, you're on your own. And don't think you're not easy to find. Your IP addresses are save on this site. With a Court Order, you identity will be revealed to anyone filing a lawsuit against you.

Only IP addresses on anonymous posts are saved.

Interesting... so a registered poster could never be tracked down if harm did come to an officer due to a posted pic.

Not a good policy if you ask me... but since i wasn't asked... ah well

Musha,
I may have posted in haste.
I'll get you a better answer.

C'mon Steve. I'm reposting without the last line, which gets tat post nixed.

#1, stop with the scare tactics. As ES points out, there is anonymity. And besides, there's NOTHING ILLEGAL in posting pictures to this site, so there's not going to be any court order forcing a turnover of the information that isn't saved.

Thanks EF... as i've stated many times, i understand this site is a work in progress.

Rome wasn't built in a day... and lord knows this city's traffic and parking issues evolved over centuries, there was little planning (especially in the outer boros)

Sorry ES. But #1 deliberately crafted his email ambiguously to suggest that someone could get hurt or killed because of a post on this site--i.e., the poster--and then says "and don't think you're not easy to find." The last line about the lawsuit does not remove the lurking threat to posters. So far the only actual threats of violence that this site has generated are threats, more or less veiled, against the posters. I respect the concerns of bkylncop1, musha and others who say black out the plate, I'm going to do that with future posts and I've already started to go back to my old posts and fix them. But so far the only actual threats have been against the posters, and that's exactly what #1 is trying to doing, quite cleverly.

Yeah, I got you Steve.
Most references to that policy are meant to do that. Thanks for deferring to the plates issue.

Don't drop the ball here. When parking permits are used illegally, that opens the door to the real "bad-guys" doing the same thing.

You have to check and verify all of them if we are all going to be safe. Don't get caught thinking inside the box.

Faked restricted parking permits are missing the raised seal... hard to make out on a photo, but easy to see in person. Also, the color of the permit is generally off from a real one (tho permits do fade in the sun, so going by the color shade being off isnt that helpful)

Faked "Official" permits are almost always for an agency that does not exist. Since they don't exist, there is nothing to compare it to.

If this car is in a self-enformcement zone then what are you complaining about?

I hope all the civil servants start parking legally and then the residents ( typical manhattan complainers, these are the same people that whine about their zip code being changed) will have no where to park.

i.e. parking illegally actually opens up more available spots...

#15, he's more than 2 blocks away from the 20th prcinct with an expired 30th pct placard that's been altered.

First of all, the comment about ONLY ANONYMOUS poster's IP addresses are the only ones saved is bull and you guys no it. Every single person who comes to this site has their IP address saved on your servers in a log file. So save that line for those who don't know about computers. Second, my line about one not being hard to find is NOT a threat. What I mean about that is people think that their identity is secret on these type of sites. With a Court Order, their identity will be revieled. If you don't believe me, ask any one who is currently being sued right now by the Big Record companies for downloading music. They thought their identity was secret also. I will tell you for a fact that if I get hurt due to info someone posted on this site, I'm suing every one involved. And while you may believe that you're not responsible, you will still be named in the suit. We'll just let the Judge decide. Again, no threats my friends, just facts.
