dropping off the kid

Observed by Pluck on Fri, Mar 23 2007

At approximately 9:00am on Friday, March 23rd, this non-official car was parked in front of the Rodolf Sholom Synagogue and school—also in front of a fire hydrant. The occupant was clearly dropping off a child for school. There was no emergency or investigation going on. I'm not sure if the permit is even valid, because it doesn't match up exactly to the sample on your site. See my photos.

That does not look good. The hydrant is literally positioned at the mid section of the car. It's going to be very difficult to SNAKE a hose and CONNECT the hose to that hydrant.

Yep, snake the hose through after breaking the windows. Yes, we know the windows will be broken, that's the least of the problems seen here. Windows can be replaced.
Look at the minimal clearance between the car and the hydrant. The hose will be kinked. Look at the narrow street.
This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Not all placards are police, there are other agency like the DA's office who carry placards that states police parking, why there do that ? I don't know.

Musha,
I hope you are reading this post, because I did have an aneurysm when blue trumpet posted that line:

"It's NOT illegal parking! It's an act of non-violent civil disobedience and street theater designed to protest the lack of official parking at police facilities."

Thank him for me--that's precious. I'm telling you, if he wanted to do some street theater around lack of official parking--hell if he even just wanted a bunch of community members to come to the next rally for a better contract-- I'm sure we can get a bunch of folks there.

And I'm thrilled to see that someone made a collar on a fake permit that was posted on the site! That seems like a huge win to me. I'm personally going to spend most of my energy around the site on finding the fake permits, frauds, etc. (www.communitymayors.org are minting their own plaques that say "Mayor's Vehicle" on them--while the website looks sweet, a little bit of background check is very illuminating)

And "nypd2006" is absolutely right, that post will not see follow up because RMPs are exempt from parking regs while in active service.

We've only kept it up on the site because of the very excellent thread of comments below it.

Pluck--

Always note, by picture if possible, by text otherwise, that a hydrant parker is *not in the car*. ("dropping kid off" is ambiguous) The NYC Parking Rules allow standing by a hydrant if the driver is in the driver's seat.

I'm assuming here that they weren't in fact in the car, but this should be explicitly stated for follow up purposes.

Thanks!

Reading and laughing myself... almost ruining a good keyboard with my tea because of it.

Saw the post with the collar made on the fake permit... a good portion of those with fraudulent permits have fake credentials also. It was a a win-win all around.

I'll be passing this on if you don't mind :)

oiseau here, you give absolutley no reason for banning a name, because that's all you're doing, it's pretty ridiculous considering a person can register a new name in 5 minutes, so instead of me posting as oiseau, I'll be posting anonymously from any computer I'm at.

Pretty stupid.

Oiseau,
We asked a bunch of times to stop with insults. You didn't, that's all. There's a line we don't want crossed with comments on this site.

Can someone clarify? Where is the Blue Trumpet post with the "street theater" line? Where was the person with the fake permit collared? Thanks.

oiseau here, right well whatever. Seems like the insults that have been posted by anonymous people have stuck. In fact, perusing this site earlier I found many calling folks, hippies, liberal scum, and worse.

whatever.

Trying to catch all those, Oiseau. Look how many comments there are on the site.

yeah lots of comments, some jokers too whose posts seem to be left up a lot longer than should be.

But you can't ban the anonymous posters.

So what's the point of banning a person who register's? It only takes 1 minute to register again.

Its not clear from the photo or its caption as to whether or not the driver was in the vehicle or not.

If the driver was in the vehicle , no violation occured because according to nyc vehicle and traffic law, a person may stand a vehicle in front of a hydrant during daylight hours.

If the driver left the vehicle he should have been towed and ticketed.

As the lights are on i'd assume its running. If its running safe bet someone is inside it.

I went and looked at the second and third pictures more carefully (I also thought there might be someone in the car at first). It's pretty clear from the other pictures that there's nobody in the car. I think the "lights" are the emergency blinkers -- from the rear picture (not visible to the public) you can see that the tail lights are not on.

To the person who keeps posting criticism relating to this being a school: make your post without insults and it will stay up.

Just be careful. While following up on a fake permit, I thought I caught the guy a second time and had my camera taken by the FBI at gunpoint.

The first guy had a Xerox permit with a low number for Queens South. When I called them, all they wanted to know was where I got the number (phone book).

The guy saw me and came out and ID'd himself as a capatin. He had 2 red lights and numerous PD books and whatnot all over the car. I've never seen a captain drive such a piece of shit.

Plus he did the old turn on the radio in the back pocket to the local precinct trick. I almost laughed out loud as I've pulled that one myself being and accosted by undesirables while unarmed.

I left though because I didn't want a repeat of the last time, when a chaplain from Rikers with no stickers at all and one plate on his car almost ran me over.

He showed a fake shield and I was told I could leave like I was the perp. When I protested they looked but did nothing. We heard he was later arrested for the same thing.

So anyway I thought I had caught the fake captain again, but it turned out to be the FBI. They didn't like me taking a picture of the permit that's actually listed on this site. They wrote me a reciept, both signed it, made me sign it, and then gave me the only copy with no date.

When I called the duty agent at the NY office, They made sure they got my name and his on tape before hanging up on me 3 times, despite my claim of an on duty robbery.

BTW, The fake captain became FDNY after 9/11. We found his house and told the precinct but they couldn't seem to find him. I know he's still around because I saw his car right in front of the Queens Supreme court with his fake permit.

I still haven't gotten the camera back from the FBI.
