Mazie Mazda:The Fox 5 Cretan NYP Placard Abuser

Observed by Dick Tracy on Tue, Jul 07 2009

Behold Mazie Mazda who drives in everyday from home to NYC where she has a wonderful free parking spot to park for free all day. She is not covering a news assignment at the location of said assignment in her reserved parking spot a privilege a local resident pays over $7000.00 a year for.

Mazie is joined by fellow FOX 5 employee Cretans enjoying their free all-day parking spot at resident expense. They are like cockroaches infesting you home. You spray them and they go to your neighbor. These un-enforced placard abusers are never ticketed and the signage is meaningless depriving local area residents curbside parking while they enjoy the free perk the taxpayers provide.

No amount of congestion pricing would discourage someone from driving in knowing they had a free reserved parking spot where they worked.

Mazie can be often seen on this block or in the general area in similar restricted parking areas with her fellow FOX 5 cretans parking all day and spending at most 30 seconds looking for a spot while residents are excluded in their own neighborhood from this curbside parking.

This is utter insanity. Press placards are only valid for three hours in a red signed press zone or at the scene of an assignment. They are not all day free parking permits to be used near the studio.

Free pass in my book. Any parking that deprives the whiny rich folk of the area of a parking spot always gets a free pass from me. Besides, why even mess with the press when there are far more deserving people who need to be summonsed?

Fuss, I can always count on you to make my points. Your ridiculous self-serving attitude is a big plus for our side. But thou doth protest too much. What is it that so concerns you when this abuse sees the light of day. With the aid of this site I have gotten signage change on several full blocks and embarrassed Mayor Bloomberg into taking action on Park east Synagogue placard abuse. All you do is whine uselessly. I am winning.

Wow, Mr. Tracy you deserve a big pat on the back. Signage changes? Embarrassed Mayor? Are you not we exaggerating a tad bit? For starters any signage changes were never forced by your existence so get off your high horse. The city changes signs by their own free will. As for the Synagogue placards.......Have you been there lately. Dont look now but they are baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. So much for you embarrassing the Mayor. Let me ask you something though, how goes your attempts at getting rid of Self Enforcement Areas in general? Hmmmm, all I get from the nay-sayers is silence or the ole Huckle-buck excuse that eventually it will happen. Well Mr. Tracy, the nay-sayers have been beating that drum for decades and the self enforcement areas still remain. It is ok, perhaps you can pass the torch down to your children or better yet your grandchildren. Maybe they will have better luck chasing this elusive unicorn. Until that happens, I will keep enjoying my placard to its fullest and enjoying the wonderful privileges that it bestows upon me.
BTW, what you call a ridiculous self serving attitude I choose to dub "CONFIDENCE".

Dick how did you embarrass Bloomy. They still park where they want to. Doesn't matter what Bloomy does. They will not ticket their own. Get used to it. Nothing will change.

February 24, 2008 -- NEWS of Mayor Bloomberg's crackdown on privileged parkers hasn't reached his own community board, which has authorized a synagogue a dozen blocks from the mayor's home to use homemade parking placards.
Officials at Community Board 8, which covers the Upper East Side, even sent out an e-mail last week spelling out the peculiar deal it made with the Park East Synagogue on East 67th Street.
Bloomberg - who has ordered a sharp cutback in government parking placards - lives just a stroll away on East 79th Street.
"After a very lengthy and detailed discussion, [Park East] agreed to the recommendation that they reduce the number of placards to eight by the end of June 2008, then decrease by four by June 2009, and two the following year, until the number of placards in use is reduced to two by June 2010," said the e-mail from Assistant District Manager Latha Thompson.
The message was sent to an irate resident, who has been complaining for months that Park East was manufacturing its own parking placards, and that the 19th Precinct next door was honoring them.
City Councilman Dan Garodnick (D-Manhattan) told The Post the community board was way out of bounds.
"It's unacceptable for individuals to be generating their own parking placards," he said.
Garodnick - who appoints members to the community board - said he wants all the synagogue's permits yanked, since only government entities can issue official parking placards.
Bloomberg is tightening that restriction on March 1, when 20 percent of all placards are supposed to be surrendered and placard-issuing powers will be limited to the NYPD and the Department of Transportation.
Park East director Joel Baum said the permits date back to before he came on board, and are used by teachers at the synagogue's school, a privilege accorded to public-school teachers as well.
"It has nothing really to do with the synagogue directly," he said.
CB-8 officials declined comment, saying that only the chairman, David Liston, could talk to the press and he's out of the country.

Mr. Tracy you must do your research before you speak. Obviously you are clueless when it comes to matters of Synagogue in question. Please take a stroll down the very streets you claim to have saved by embarrassing Bloomberg and you will notice that:
NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A friend of mine who covers the area confirms that TEA agents are instructed to honor the same home made placards that you claim have been eradicated.
Come on Mr. Tracy, do you even know what you are speaking of?

They are allowed to park in this zone. I don't understand what the problem is. No parking signs (except the ones that say "except authorized vehicles") and No Standing Except Trucks Loading/Unloading are totally up for grabs for placard holders. As far as I can see this says "No Parking 7a-7p M-F." What is the problem? If they weren't parked there you wouldn't be either.

NY press placards have a very clear terms of use statement. They are to be used at the scene of an assignment only or in NYP red signed zones for 3 hours. A NY press placard is not a free all day parking permit. In addition no 2009 NY press placards have been issued. I suggest you read a press placard but note most are stuffed so low on the dash you cannot see the terms of use paragraph. So no they are nit allowed to be parking in the proximety of the studeo here all day or even for 1 minute.

Just because you suggest I read a press placard does not mean I will summons it. If the area is designated a press parking area then they will be allowed to park in the area as long as they have a placard. Food for thought: TEA agents are suppose to summons any car that exceeds a 2 hour limit on a broken meter. In a perfect world this is common place but in a reality based world such a thing does not occur. We just do not have the time nor the inclination to watch a car for 2 or 3 hours to make sure it is not exceeding the allocated maximum parking time. Usually in all cases involving time restricted parking other than meters, TEA agents just ignore these cars and move on to easier targets. What I am trying to say is that these cars would usually get a free pass. Lets face it,, this is their designated parking area so why even bother.

This is not their designated 3 hour parking area. This is a NO PARKING AREA in the proximity of the studio. They are nit allowed to park there even for 5 minutes when nit at the scene of an assignment. I do appreciate your comments so keep it up as I use them to get signage change to pull the rug out of these cretans.

Dick: You can get all the signage changes you want. You seem to forget that they will not ticket anybody with a legal placard. Get used to it.

Sign changes? So is this what motivates you Mr Tracy? One can have all the signs in the world changed but what does it matter in the greater scheme of things especially when TEA agents and police officers would never summons their own? As an enforcer of the traffic regulations I will attest that I use discretion to ignore the signage on any given block. Only I can deem who gets courtesy and who does not. So I ask you Mr Tracy, does a change in signage really get anything done? I think not but if it makes you feel better to have the signs changed then by all means knock yourself out and have at it. For some the illusion of control is greater than the reality of control. In the end nothing changes and everything remains the same for those who have the honor and privilege to own a parking placard. Ultimately what Mr Tracy and the other nay sayers realize is that only we are the issuer of summonses and till they ration out summons books to civilians things will never change. GET USED TO IT!

The needs of the few most definitely out weigh the needs of the many when it comes to our parking privileges. Frankly Mr Tracy, I do not care what motivates you just as long as my car is protected by the almighty shield provided by my parking permit. While everyone else pays for garage parking or metered parking in the city, all I have to do is find a TEA/Police facility where my placard will always entitle me to free unlimited parking. Thank god for my parking permit.
