Thanks to Chris O'Leary at On Transport for posting the best documentation we've seen so far of NYPD's utter disregard for the 34th Street bus lane. He took this picture yesterday during the middle of the evening rush, around 6 p.m., a time when there's absolutely no excuse:
--------------------------------------
The shoulder lane is dedicated to buses only between 7am and 7pm on weekdays. But the eight empty police cars parked in the lane between 5th and 6th avenues would suggest otherwise.
As a result, buses had to load and unload in the one eastbound travel lane, causing gridlock and leaving cars in the crosswalk of a major pedestrian crossing.
Who will enforce the law when the enforcers won't even obey the law?
--------------------------------------
We've seen traffic enforcement SUVs clog this bus lane before, but these are regular precinct vehicles, without a doubt. "At first I figured they were responding to an emergency," O'Leary said, "but there was no police presence on the street or sidewalk, they were ALL unoccupied, and the lights and engines were off."
The community affairs desk at Midtown South denied that officers from that precinct ever park in this bus lane. Perhaps officers from another precinct decided to make a pit stop and, just for good measure, mess with all the straphangers counting on Select Bus Service to get around town.

WOW, talk about clueless yuppies. This is an every day occurrence by the NYPD and for good reason. THEY ARE CONDUCTING ANTI TERRORIST PATROLS IN THE AREA HENCE THE EMPTY POLICE CARS. They usually caravan to this location and park right in front of the Empire State building where they exit and deploy into the surrounding buildings and train stations. This is done in order to keep the citizens of NYC safe. What is up with you people? You clammer for the protection of the NYPD and then you question the manner in which they carry out that very protection. What do you want them to do when they respond to an emergency? Would you like them to park the police cars on their hats? Unbelievable!
BY THE WAY, in my TEA agent the lights can not operate when the car is off. The article is moronic and written by a clueless individual. I am no cop but even I know that they are doing anti terrorist work that in the end keeps all of new york safe.

That's because they are clueless. They have no idea what the hell is going on. All they see is police cars parked in a bus lane.

Dragon, you are absolutely correct in your assessment. They are quick to make a snap judgment on matters that they possibly can not comprehend. How small these critics would feel if these police tactics would cease due in part to a lack of proper parking and then all of a sudden a terrorist attack would occur on one of the most heavily congested streets in all of new york city. I can predict that the same nay sayers would suddenly switch gears and begin to ask why there was not a anti terrorist presence in the very same area that they chastised the cops for being at. This is a classic case of constant whiners who will always find something wrong with their government.
