Continued defiance by the NYPD and FD clearly in violation of placard parking regulations despite a request by community board 8m to cease and desist.
This kind of crap is exactly what this site is highlighting and could not be more clear than this example. The situation has been brought to the attention of Council member Daniel Garodnick over three years ago and many times to community board 8m. The DOT has looked at the situation and declared the NO STANDING ANYTIME SIGNS to be appropriate. The DOT parking placard guidelines clearly state that placard parking is not permitted in NO STANDING ANYTIME zones.

Are they blocking your beautiful park? They have legal placards. There is no safety issue. So what is the problem?

Good work, Dick Tracy. Keep posting. Call 311, but you may want to not report it as a placard abuse -- unfortunately no agency responds to those calls right now. Just call it in as illegal parking and don't mention placards; that way NYPD will be more likely to respond.

Keep calling 311 and report it as illegal parking so when they come and it is one of their own they will just keep on going.

311 is a complete joke if you ask me. Yeah, keep calling that number...yeah, that will get things done and I have a bridge to sell you.

The only thing one gets from calling 311 is a larger phone bill. It as a total farce.

Dick,
Even if the City is cowardly not taking action on these 311 calls, doing so at least serves as an official documentation of the problem, and is forwarded to the local Community Boards. I'd still encourage you to call 311. I'd also encourage you to write the Mayor's office and ask that 311 calls of this nature (placard-abusing) actually get referred to an agency for response.
I'd also call 311 (and not report it as a placard abuse) so that NYPD is more likely to respond. If these yahoos are going to break the law and endanger our lives, we might as well remind them of their criminal actions, as well as waste their time.
