In front of Oneill's Bar on a Sat. night there are 6 cars in the bus stop, 4 on the sidewalk, and 2 doubleparked.
My second picture shows the decal that is put in the window of some of the cars. It just says NYPD, and people think it entitles them to park anywhere.

Well obviuosly those patches do entitle you to park anywhere....

Stickers on a car does not mean that the person who drives/owns the vehicle are associated in any way witht the NYPD.

The 311 responses to the parking problem is that the police did not notice any illegal parking when they arrived. It seems we certainly have selective enforcement in this city.

Response to number 4 - then they should be ticketed.

So is it NYPD or is it a fake permit? You can't have it both ways.

Response to 10 - whether its an official NYPD permit or a fake, parking on sidewalks in front of a bar should not be allowed and ignored by the 104th precinct.

I live within the 104 and there is a hydrant in frontof my home. when ever an auto parks there I call 311. whenever there is a nypd id on the dash the patrol car just passes by,if it comes by at all. for repeat offenders I email the commish of the pd and ask if his employee is above the law? That stops the offender after a while! I will be supmitting pics. Thank you very much for this site!

They are setting a poor example for the youth of today. I am horrified.

As if the youth of today in NYC looks up to the police...

Do you really believe that when you call 311 and say a Police Officer is parked illegally that one of my Fellow Officers is going to come and give a fellow Police Officer a ticket. I doubt it, we are allowed to use discretion when issuing summonses and we choose not to issue are brothers tickets period. We take care of our own because no one else will so we rely on one another to look after each other. Very few people can understand this fact unless you have been part of such an organization or in the Military. Put your trust in someone and have them put their trust in you, most of us take this very seriously put all the other nonsense behind us.
This is the way its always been and I don't forsee it changing in the future, its just the nature of being part of a dangerous job like I said the average citizen will never understand.

#20 = The police should not be above the law. They should park legally, like every other citizen has to do. Having a drink at a bar is not an emergency situation. They should not block sidewalks and doublepark whereever they feel like it. Maybe we need a totally separate agency for traffic and parking enforcement if the police refuse to do their job.

#21 Its not refusing to do our job its called "Discretion" We do get summoses by traffic we have had our Department vehicles summosed while we were working. We are not above the law I never said that. How about companies giving discounts to their employees are they taking care of their own, airlines giving discounted tickets to their employees should we also stop that??? How about Department stores giving discounts to their employess should we stop that just because a small portion of people are getting these discounts??
Become one of the "Finest" and see how much lattitude we really have. Our job is so micromanaged we have very little freedom we are governed by a strict set of rules. Almost any other profession if you make a split second decision that turns bad you are not facing indictment by a grand jury but that is just one of the NYPDS many perks.

21- so what u are saying is that a civilian would get a ticket for breaking the law, but any police officer or anyone with a police sticker can break the same law and be let go????
The police dept does not own the city streets and has no right to consider them selves above the law. I guess that is why a site like this was created, since some govt workers abuse the system, and think they can do whatever they want.

Companies can give discounts on their merchandise because they own it.
You do not own NYC streets. The taxpayers of this city do.
Posted on Tue, Mar 27 2007 at 03:22 PM
Never said we owned the streets we "protect" the streets and we are allowed discretion in who we issue summons to get it.

NYC taxpayers pay your salary. You work for us. We do not want our driveways blocked. We do not want parking on sidewalks, in crosswalks, or bus stops.
Your job is to enforce the law fairly and equally without discrimination.

If you pay my salary I want a raise $25000 a year for getting shot at and indicted is not worth Your "I pay your salary Comment"

You get 25k during your training period. If u went to college to train for a career you would have to pay thousands each year for 4 years, so it seems reasonable.
Anyway, thats besides the point - even if u make minimum wage at a fast food restaurant you still have to park legally.
I'm not trying to criticize the work u do. Just take advantage of your parking permits.
Thats all.

We did go to College its part of our requirements to become Cops and to Become Bosses you need even more College. I don't work for you personally I work for the citizens of NY who seem very unappreciative even as cops are being shot left and right around this city. I understand you are not trying to criticize the work we do, its a job that most of this city cannot comprehend unless you are actually part of it. To me the whole parking situation is pretty trivial, looking at the bigger picture their are alot more things to be concerned about.

Is one of the other "perks" of being a cop that "right" to flip on one's lights and sirens at red lights and drive through, only to turn them off on the other side of the intersection?
I can't tell you how many times I've seen this one ...

We may have to get to a job quickly but no need to keep the constant on to scare away the Bad person that is Robbing your innocent behind or worse!!!! Don't judge before you know all the facts it always seem that the public is so quick to jump down our throats without knowing all the facts. I was taught as a child to THINK!! before I opened my mouth the public should consider trying it sometimes. Unless you have a portable dept radio in your car you have no way of knowing whats going on in each and every precinct. Thankfully each Police Officer is equipped with a radio to monitor crime in his/her Precinct.

I support the police. I know many police officers. I know the job is tough.
Just follow the parking rules like everyone else.
