As has been explained to you numerous times, UFA are union placards and are not valid on City Streets, anywhere. They are different than FDNY placards. Fire Zones are always to be kept clear, by cars with UFA placards, FDNY placards, even by the Popemobile.
Isn't that a firehouse across the street? Maybe, just maybe the car BELONGS to a firefighter that was on duty????? I would call that "UFA Official Business"...
mvodohmh -- you seem to be missing the point. It certainly is firehouse across the street, thus the Fire Zone. And there is a very good chance that the car does belong to a firefighter. Whatever constitutes "UFA Official Business", those placards are not recognized by the City for use on City streets, anywhere. Additionally, NO vehicles are allowed in Fire Zones (well, unless you're a fire truck pulling in or out), no matter what placard you have, legit or not.
Law, why do you insist on stirring the pot when in fact there is nothing illegal here to see. The owner of the car is clearly a firefighter who is in possession of a UNION parking permit who happens to be parked in his self enforcement area. You are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY INCORRECT when you say these placards are illegal. Mayor Mikey might not recognize these placards as being offical but every other law enforcement entity in NYC recognizes these placards as being legit. Here is a little tid bit that you did not know: Unlike the TEA, NYPD, SCHOOL SAFETY, and select others the FDNY does not get its placards issued by the city. The mayor frowns upon this lack of control over these placards and always wants the firefighters issued summonses. WELL GUESS WHAT? It just will never happen. Being that these placards are being issued by the union, the Mayor and his ilk can not do anything about them. Another interesting side note is that the SBA, LBA and the PBA are now in the works to print out their own union placards. As I understand it the SBA already does this for its supervisors and as soon as the PBA does it for its members the TEA will follow suit. Eventually the city will have no say on matters of these parking permits and eventually COURTESY AND DISCRETION WILL RULE THE DAY. All this has been put into motion by the Mayor and his buddies at the TA. Yes, the TA has helped to reign in a new era of parking permits. While Mayor Mikey touts his reductions in city issued parking permits he fails to mention the sudden increase of UNION issued parking permits. While the numbers show a decrease the real figures show an exponential increase. If you dont believe me on the fact of UNION placards check around the schools for the Teachers UNION is in the works with their own placards as well. Be careful what you wish for cause the end result might just be worse and as it stands its turning out to be a glorious day.
No Law, you seem to have missed the point. The FFs park there in the no parking zone to PROTECT the integrity of that zone. What if some yahoo parks there and there is (heaven forbid)a fire and the trucks are stuck there because said yahoo is blocking them in??? If a FF parked there, I'm sure the firehouse would have his/her keys in there just for that emergency! I would rather them parking in their self-enforced zone than some idiot who blocks them in!
Haha, now I've truly heard everything. These law breakers are protecing "the integrity" of Fire Zones?! What? Are you really serious?! How about protecing the integrity of the law, and protecting our safety? Dude, please tell me you're joking.
LAW: What law are they breaking? They have a LEGAL PARKING PERMIT. They can park there. If there is a fire they come out and move the car. There is no big deal there. ISee that all the time. So what is the problem?
Thank you Dragon. And NO. I am not joking. Have you seen what happens when someone clueless blocks them in?? They have to go looking for that person to move the veh or use the big rig to "persuade" the parked veh out of the way. Same thing as when youhave guests over your house and you have them park in front of your driveway. I'd rather have them instead of someone who I'll have ticketed and towed out of my way.
At my station we have 40 personnel per shift. But we only have a 8 car parking lot and 5 spots in front of the station. We used to double park on the street. But someone complained at the community board about our cars being double parked in our SEZ. Now the 13 cars park in the spots and the rest are parked in legal spaces. We only release these spaces to members from our station. Now the community board is complaining that we are taking up all of the spaces from the public. The response from my captain was great. He told the community board that he took action and no one is double parking in front of the station. All of my members are parked legally. Now the community board wants us to go back to the way things were prior to the first complaint. But we refuse and continue to park in our legal spaces with our placards in our windshields.
Why waist your breath on a person that can not possibly understand the concept of professional courtesy. Clearly the poster is just envious that the fire fighter can park there and not him. This self entitlement will eventually be the undoing of the poster. When will he finally comprehend that he is no part of the inner circle and that he would never be bestowed courtesy. If you want to belong then take a civil service exam and join the ranks of the chosen few.
The fireman gets a free pass hence the windshield hat is devoid of any sort of summons.
MikeB, funny you should mention this. 2 weeks ago I had a run in with the buffoon Jimmy Justice, a self annointed crusader for the public who seeks to embarrass TEA agents. This whimsical person approached me with a camera in hand and demanded that I instruct the Police personnel from the local precinct to stop hogging up all the legal spots around the precinct. How ironic is that? This farce goes around complaining about illegal parking and now that he has pretty much gotten what he wanted the same yokel is crying about how the cops are hogging up legal spots. What makes matters worse is that he is trying to bully the TEA agents into doing his dirty work. NEWS FLASH BUDDY..........Those cops are parked legally and too bad if now by legally parking the community has nowhere to park. GO CRY ME A RIVER! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR FOR CHANGE MIGHT BE WORSE!
Too bad there isn't much of a residential area where our facility is at but we sure do have a lot of businesses. I love it when I throw my truck at a meter and hog it all day. They give me dirty looks but what do you expect when you have a TEA facility across the street. They have no choice but to bare, grin and accept it. My god, how I love my parking permit.
lawandorder get a life.
FYI This car is not parked in such a way that it would prevent the company from pulling out. Fire Fighters do not block in their own rigs. We also dont take kindly to those that do.

Fire zone. Fire department placard. Sounds good to me. Nothing wrong here.
