This purple Scion tC displaying an NYPD permit (81st Precinct) in the windshield frequenty parks for entire days at the fire hydrant in front of 565 Prospect Place in Brooklyn. This is an obvious abuse of power and threatens public safety.

Didn't the mayor recently announce some kind of thing where citizens can send in photos of violations with their cell phobes and whatever?
Ceartainly if he was sincere he woudl assign a task force to do follow up on every post on this site. We should not need FOILS.
Again I suggest the person above check the TA report. 77% of NYPD abuse their placards.

1. Cell phone pics -- they've announced that someday this will be part of 311.
2. No, we shouldn't need FOILS. But as things progress, we are developing contacts within the agencies to route complaints.
3. Obviously our long-term preference is to get the administration to handle this internally. But as you can tell from the threats and abuse from those affected, this is a very sensitive issue among various agencies, from top to bottom. Change will not come easily.

For months one of the 2 unmarkeds outside of the Mayor's house on E 79th St had an expired inspection sticker which is a summons even while parked. They never moved for alt parking either.
You think he cares? He's the one who gave out summonses in the middle of the last blizzard. I have a copy of a summons given out, one of five or six, at the height of the blizzard for alternate parking.
The agent had the nerve to write on the summons that the windshield had snow covering the reg so he couldn't read it.
The Mayor, after some initial arrogance, dismissed 3 days of summonses but not the ones written Wednesday during the blizzard.
There was a quote from him about NY'ers being lazy and he didn't like to get up early to move the car, but if he could do it so could you. Of course no news outfit bothered to mention the cops drive him everywhere.
What nerve, he shows no respect, just another dishonest, lying politician.

That is the reason the mayor needs to be held accountable. The blizzard backfired on hom and as you recently saw he was not so fast to reinstate alternate side rules in the recent snow storm. He is a political creature and his denial on handling this problem has to be exposed in a way that does him political damage then he will act.

Just try even peeking at the dashes of the many illegally parked cars within a 2-blok radius of Mayor Mike's house and you will have NYPD and NYSP all over you. The like to hang out in a black SUV just to the south of the Met and they come popping out like Jack-in-the-boxes if they see anything they don't like.

The thrust if this site should be to put pressure on the mayor to fix it. When a problem gets too much bad press such as not lifting alternite side rules in a blizzard it causes political damage.

I seriously suggest that when posting parking abuse on this site the poster also file a 311 complaint which can be done anonymously. The complaint will get a case number and should be followed up after 8 hours. If it is a bogus placard problem, mention that. The important thing is to follow up the initial complaint and of it has not beenm addressed, file another complaint on the car and the precinct assigned to handle it for dereliction of duty. Hopefully the bean counters will get this surge of complaints up to the mayor.

Are you really serious we the Police are not above the law by no means, but dereliction of duty you really have nothing better to do. We give our blood for the city and its people and this is how we are thanked by photgraphing our vehicles, get real. Everyone thinks they can do this job better or second guesses every move made by its Police Officers. I say walk a mile in our shoes then you can have your say. I would rather just have you say "Thank You for making this the safest big City in the USA" and go back to your business. The majority of Cops took this job to make a difference and help people we all have families and aside from a very difficult job we are all regular people. How about we go back to the days in the 80's and 90's when the homicides and violent crimes were through the roof then you could really have something to complain about other then were we are parking. People get real and stop the whinning!!!! "People who make war with the Police be prepared to make friends with the criminals"

Unfortunately these bad cops disgrace the good ones and I wonder why the good ones stand for this. I would call not dealing with scoff laws deriliction of duty. None of the excuses have a thing to do with the subject of this post, so the whonning seems to be coming from the apologists for supportinglaw breakers.

I think the police generally do a good job. This has nothing to do with giving your blood for the city. You're parking illegally. Period. If you don't want your vehicle photographed, don't make a spectacle of it by blocking a hydrant. You get real. Don't whine when YOU get caught doing something illegal.
And we have nothing better to do? I suppose that means that police who ticket illegally parked cars also have nothing better to do. Why do police ticket the cars of ordinary citizens if it's alright to park at a hydrant? You are so laughably hypocritical. Stop wasting space here if you're going to continue with this goofy blather.

BK well said.

You think the police are doing a good job but that's what you think, not what you know, which is only what you have been told.
How is this the safest big city in America if we have 10 times the felonies of any other city? That's what you've been told.
Did you know those FBI stats come from NYPD and the FBI isn't allowed to say anything if they think they are phony?
I've seen an attempted quarter million dollar burglary listed as a criminal mischief because the burlars were scared off and didn't get anything. The same as grafitti.
It's the same "we don't have to follow the rules" thinking as the parking issue. Only thing is, the parking is visible to all.
I don't think, I know!

Have another cup of coffee and relax!!!!!

To clarify--although I listed it as being parked in an SEZ, this car was not parked in a SEZ. I made a mistake in my entry. This is just a normal city block. The precinct is four blocks away.

If the hydrant was right in front of the station, nobody should ever block a hydrant. There are many reasons. The biggest one is getting the engine close enough to the sidewalk so it can get out of the way for the ladder truck to save your burning butt from the 8th floor window.
Another alternative. Widen every one way street in Manhattan. IMPOSSIBLE.
