This Escalade has been parked in a NO PARKING 7AM-7PM EXCEPT SUNDAY spo tfor at least a week, Just what official business could this be other than a free reserved parking spot near home,
I agree it's not amount of time, it's whether or not it's official business (even for unrestricted permits like this one). It does seem somewhat unlikely that it would be on official business for two days(unless it is an unmarked that is "officially" being stored there :-)
DT--
Can you block or blur the license plate? It's visible at full resolution.
This car parks on this street regulary for long periods of time. If being in your apartment is considered official business, I do a lot of official business myself.

We also have a big problem on this block with MD's on terminal housecalls. Problem is iot is their own house.
I have a hard time putting in words why this sort of flip, unhelpful, generalization is so irritating. Part of it is because THE WHOLE SITE is premised on the fact that (some) city employees and other permit holders have no respect for the law, so at best you're not really adding anything.
But this particular statement is also patently untrue. This site has a number of fans throughout NYPD -- I've spoken to Sergeants, Captains, and Inspectors in a variety of roles who think what we're doing is great. I get remarkably positive feedback from the upper echelons of city and state agencies. And there are some cops who believe in this issue enough to RISK THEIR CAREERS, like the guy who ordered the towings in Chinatown.
This problem is remarkably nuanced. Glib insults like this reflect either a desire to disrupt productive conversation or a complete failure to even attempt to appreciate the complexity of the situation. (That is, either you're a cop, having us on, or you're just not thinking very hard.)
Salguod, if you think that was cop trying to put you on you have WAY TOO MUCH faith in their talents ;)
But as I've stated before, some posters are as they seem, and some posters are just the opposite... the wonders of the internet... if they try to pass as a 20 y/o s/f you can be sure they aren't... heh
Anyhow, my 2 cents is I think this site will do more good then harm... some eggs might get broken in the beginning, but once things settle down (and the name calling from the 2 extremes wear themselves out) the city machine will be forced to properly address issues they haven't for years.
They've apparently changed the names to juice up the story... but we did bite at first. The thing that tipped me was the "confiscated film." I mean, who the hell has film in their camera any more?
point taken... we are a bit more creative then the general cop bashing post it seems ;)
i still liked the van... made me smile

This large expensive vehicle has nothing whatsoever to do with the 19th precinct. This is pure abuse of the placard and has nothingto do with official business.
The value and size of the vehicle is not the issue.
As I said before, there are enough incidents of permit abuse that we have no need to include this... if it SEZ,and the placard is Official Business there is no violation.
I'll revise myself... in this case, if it is an official permit parking at a signed location as indicated on it's permit it is not in violation of any parking rules. SEZ is not a consideration in this case.

Oh yes it is. It has to be involved in official business not a free parking spot near home.

Let me be perfectly clear. The placard indicates that the vehicle is parked for official business. If it is not parked for officlal business it is a violation of the use of the placard. Using an offical business placard to get yrouself a free parking spot near your home, or possibly using a placard you got from someone else is not a legitamate use of the placard.
Not ignoring your argument... my issue is that we can neither prove nor disprove the abuse in this circumstance... it is not cut and dry like other violations that have been posted... that is my issue
btw, i doubt very much that a cop can afford to live on the same block as all the MD plates that apparently live here... again, can be neither proved nor disproved... you are making an assumption... i'm not felix unger, so i wont bother to spell that out for you :)

I would assume the NYPD would frown on misuse of an official business placard especially if the person using it got it from a friend. The FOILS will tell. Certain things don't pass the smell test and since 215 east 68th is full of political hacks, I suspect somethings afoot.
I would think it is worth investigating as encouraging not checking would make good counterfeits terrific ways for terror cells to run amuck.
i have no way of knowing what political hacks live on the block... tho based on the MD plates supposedly spotted on the block i can come to the conclusion that the rents are... substantial... and doubt anyone making my salary could afford to live there
due to the accountability of the official placards and the tightness the dept holds them with, any that would lend one would be more then a fool

If one can afford to live on that block, one can afford an INDOOR parking space.
Cops really use a nice car like that on official related business? Is it a personal car or a city owned/leased vehicle?
Attempting to argue about the price of the vehicle, or the upscale homes has nothing to do with the obvious point: This vehicle is NOT here for "official business." There is no need to conjecture about it, "offical business" does not span five days in the same residential spot.

Despite the amount of time at the location this is not a violation the the official permit... the parking is legit.

That is nonsense.

Salgoud, I agree that it is unlikely that the vehicle in question has been on official duty for a full week... unlikely but not impossible.
there is more then enough permit abuse where the situation is cut and dry to keep this site busy.
i doubt that the car is parked near the officer's home... unless i am mistaken the 19th pct is nearby...
