Nissan Altima who think like Mr. Camero
575 riverside drive, Manhattan. Observed by m015094 on Thu, May 06 2010
This black Altima is parked in the same location as the Camero in the previous post (you can see the Camero in the picture). However, he doesn't cover up the license plate # on the placard with his EZ-Pass (I forgot to mention that before). The placard is legit (I think), but his use of it isn't. There are some other cars who use NYPD placards to park in this "No Standing" residential zone. I'll keep my eye out for them and post them in the future.
Yellow Camero's Free Parking Spot
575 riverside drive, Manhattan. Observed by m015094 on Thu, May 06 2010
This new bright yellow Camero is parked in the same spot everyday. I often wondered how it could do such a thing since I parked in the same area for the week I had a car in Manhattan - and had to move my car constantly. I then noticed it was parked in a "No Standing Anytime" with white hash marks denoting the area. Huh, how could he park here? Oh, the placard in his windshield says NYPD. But wait, this isn't an emergency and this person is parking in a residential area - nowhere near any SEZ. So, he (or she) is using the placard to park closer to his apartment building than his fellow residents. Hmm...kinda rude.

Dangerously blocking walkway into park used by women with strollers and dog walkers
holt place and resrvoir oval east, Bronx. Observed by norwoodcitizen on Sun, Apr 18 2010
Local cop uses the walkway into a large, busy park as his personal parking space. It's a NO STANDING zone, but that doesn't stop him from forcing mothers with strollers, dog walkers, and the elderly to walk in the middle of the street! This is habitual, most evenings it's there all night, sometimes it stays there all weekend. Of course, I've never seen it ticketed...

Well Inspector Murtagh, here we go again.
Your arrogant above-the-law slime balls with your blessing continue to violate placard and all parking regulations for their own convenience and with your blessing.
Council Member Garodnick, Community Board 8 and mayor Bloomberg, when will you act?? Letter writing and blunder and bluster and rhetoric won't get the job done. Deputy mayor Stryker are you blind?? Pure unadulterated bull excrement. This is as illegal as it gets and year after year the same status quo bile from you officials and politicians. If you don't fix the problem you are part of the problem, and need to seek a different line of employment because you people are either totally incompetent or corrupt.

Blocking Hydrant
15th Street and Prospect Park west, Brooklyn. Observed by Peter on Wed, Apr 07 2010
Other spots down the block, but I think she was running late for the movies, so it was just easier to block the hydrant. Yes, I did see them buy tickets and go to the movies, so depending on the movie the hydrant will be blocked for about two hours. The sign is also pretty clear about no standing also.

There's really no reason to have the placard on your dash when you aren't on official business or in your Restricted Parking zone. Basicly it shows intent to fraudulently use the placard to evade parking laws.
NYPD Blocking my driveway for a week now
170 Tillary Street, Brooklyn. Observed by Tillary on Tue, Mar 16 2010
I own a restaurant and catering company in Brooklyn that requires the use of a garage. When cars block my driveway, I am unable to serve my clients and do business. My rent is quite high given this special need in a prime area, however, I will have to close my doors (and let go of my eight employees) if the NYPD continues to use my driveway as a private parking lot. This white Honda has been blocking my driveway since last Tuesday (one week and counting!). Notice the NYPD van double parked, also blocking my driveway. Ironically, even though these guys are causing me to lose business, I will still be required to pay State and City taxes to support these so-called, Civil Servants.
41 PCT Permit Abuser
EAST 222 ST and Bronx Boulevard, Bronx. Observed by JESUSFRIGGINCHRIST on Wed, Mar 17 2010
Everyday this vehicle is parked illegally past the No Standing sign on the north side of East 222 Street & Bronx Boulevard. This parking is a continuous flagrant and utterly blatant disregard for NYC parking laws. I personally have seen traffic agents give out parking tickets to FDNY & Sanitation personnel who parked at the same spot to see if they got the same treatment. Traffic agents do not enforce traffic laws when it comes to this illegal parking permit. This has got to stop. This officer needs to get reprimanded, given a CD and maybe a month's rip.

Despite a letter from CB 8 as follows:
The City of New York
Manhattan Community Board 8
May 28, 2009
Inspector James Murtagh
Commanding Officer
NYPD-19th Precinct
153 East 67th Street
New York, NY 10065
Dear Inspector Murtagh,
Community Board 8M has recently received a number of complaints from the public about vehicles displaying “NYPD-19th Precinct” placards parking illegally at the two small center islands located at either end of 66th Street between Second and Third Avenues.
As you know, these islands are signed “No Standing Anytime” and it is illegal for any vehicles to park at curbs with this signage, even with a city issued placard.
We would appreciate it if you would remind your officers of this fact.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Ludorf Jonathan Horn and Charles Warren
Members of the NYPD apparently fully supported by their commanding officer continue to thumb their above-the-law noses at the law and civilian authority.

NYC 519th Precinct?

I don't think there is a 519 precinct. The placard says "Legal Bureau." It looks like a photocopy too, which is illegal. Not to mention the fact that it has expired.

No placard, just a dashboard full of police junk (vest, hat, PBA card - showing badge # 25558). It's his 3rd time in this spot, so it's not police business. No ticket though!
Obscuring the Daylight
Douglass Street at Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn. Observed by ParkSlope on Thu, Dec 03 2009
Several months ago, in response to a civilian request, NYC DOT daylighted the northwest corners of both Douglass Street and Fifth Avenue and Baltic Street and Fifth Avenue as a safety measure. Unfortunately, both corners are frequently occupied by illegally parked cars.
Both streets run eastbound across Fifth Avenue, and both are offset, with the streets on the east side of Fifth Avenue about 20 feet north of the streets on the west side of Fifth. This creates a dangerous situation, in which cars heading to and through the intersection can't see pedestrians in or entering the crosswalk until they're nearly in the intersection, and vice versa. The daylighting of the corners vastly improved visibility -- which is negated when a vehicle parks illegally at the corner.
Today, the spot on the northwest corner of Douglass at Fifth Avenue was occupied by a late-model silver Toyota RAV4, with a police permit that appeared to be photocopied. The space is marked No Standing Anytime.
Unsurprisingly, the corresponding spot at Baltic and Fifth Avenue was also occupied by a van, which totally obscured the intersection (it did not sport a placard -- just Pennsylvania plates). I pointed it out to a passing Traffic Enforcement Agent, who wrote a ticket. When I mentioned the RAV4 with the parking placard at Douglass, she rolled her eyes, said that TEAs hate placard parkers because they park everywhere with no regard, but said there was "nothing they can do."

or that FOX 5 somehow gets press placards for everyone from the Janitor to office staff and park all day. http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/8816 but this Park East situation already caused mayor Bloomberg to blow his stack and embarrassed the cb and the other elected officials and can only exist by the corrupt attitude of Inspector Murtagh who really does need to be removed from his position as commander of the 19th precinct. http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/3888

This SUV routinely parks in this spot, even though parking is very available in the area. The restriction is aimed at improving visibility for the intersection, in which kids often play. This morning there is a legal spot less than 20 feet away, but I guess Brooklyn North is above the law!

Continued blatant placard parking abuse in a NO STANDING ANYTIME zone despite a formal request to the commander of the 19th precinct to cease and desist the illegal activity by community board 8M.
These islands are part of the parks department Greenstreets program and this bit of greenery for the community totally being totally disrespected by NYPD employees for their own convenience. Thus rather than a park we have a dog feces/refuse lot surrounded by illegally parked placarded cars.
http://nycgovparks.org/sub_your_park/trees_greenstreets/greenstreets.html
This blatant police parking abuse sets the stage for a cesspool of parking abuse on this street. Why not after all the police are doing it, why not me.
This the meters are full of all day parkers most with bogus placards, a few 19th precinct placards and the so-called truck loading and unloading zone devoid of trucks loading and unloading but full of scofflaws.
Amazingly the community board 8 people misplaced a resolution to change the signage on North side of the street from Trucks loading to normal street parking which would have taken effect about at this time. To this date the cb refuses official comment. A formal complaint has been filed with the borough president's office yesterday.
