Why this executive officer placed his business card in the window of his Mercedes and parked it in the crosswalk at Pinehurst Avenue and 183rd St. It even gives his email address.

Pinehurst Avenue and West 183rd Street, Manhattan. Observed by pedxing on Sat, Apr 05 2008
This car regularly parks in the pedestrian crosswalk. I often encounter it here in the morning and over weekends.
I've filed several 311 complaints and have gotten no response.
Federal Police in the Crosswalk each Week
Bridge St and Whitehall St, Manhattan. Observed by downtowner on Tue, Mar 25 2008
This car shows up at least 3 times a week in the same place--in the crosswalk. This is a very busy crosswalk used by most of SI Ferry commuters on their way to the 4/5.
Appears that the placard is not legal (judging by the list of legal permits on this site). At a minimum, the car is illegally blocking the crosswalk.
This is within the Blue Zone at the corner of Bridge and Whitehall Streets.
Prison guards make pedestrian wonder where to cross
550 w 20 street, Manhattan. Observed by prisonerofconscience on Fri, Dec 07 2007
When you work on the inside, sometimes everyone on the outside seems like a potential perp or menace. You wind up not giving a damn. This parking job by state prison guards sure defies logic: three vehicles are blocking the crosswalk, making this befuddled pedestrian wonder where to cross the street.
Come on, folks -- you need to park on the sidewalks AND the crosswalks too? Or it's just so cold that you want to be as close to the front door as possible? Bet it's even colder for that pedestrian, who probably wasn't the only one to try to cross the street today.
UFA Blocking a crosswalk
Duane St and Church St., Manhattan. Observed by efficient streets on Thu, Nov 29 2007
A woman stepped in front of the main shot, but this car was parked several feet into the crosswalk. To NYPD's credit, the guy got a ticket.
Prison guards park in intersection and crosswalk again
550 w 20 st, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Fri, Nov 02 2007
In a previous post - http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/2176 - I noted how this exact same car enjoys parking in the intersection. Other prison guards enjoy sidewalk and double parking around the Bayview correctional facility, and today we've ratcheted up the special privileges another step: parking official state vehicles right in the crosswalk, over the curb. What will these clever folks think of next? M14 and M23 buses stop right nearby, and these buses are apparently good enough for the executives at InterActiveCorp down the street. Those families coming to visit their loved ones in prison; those folks going to Chelsea Piers across West Street; and those employees of Bermuda limousine directly across West 20th street are constantly inconvenienced by these über-entitled prison guards and staff who daily park with impunity. If the guards were not entitled to violate City parking regulations, the State would have ample places to park its vehicles necessary for prisoner transport. Warden, you've got a mission to take corrective action. This isn't rural Hamilton County in the Adirondacks -- it's a densely-populated city whose residents ought to be able to walk on their sidewalks.

Parking in a crosswalk!
But wait, there's more!
You'll also receive, at no extra charge, parking on the sidewalk too!
Now what would you pay?!
$230? $115?
Nothing! Because you're above the law!
(Hurry, this is a limited time offer. Sorry, not available to "ordinary citizens".)

Car Parked on Crosswalk into Intersection
State Street and Smith Street, Brooklyn. Observed by Brooklyn Lawyer on Sun, May 20 2007
This one was so outrageous I had to take a picture with my phone. This person is parked on the cross walk on a Sunday afternoon when lots of other parking was available. I saw a disabled guy have to walk into the intersection to get back onto the sidewalk. Argh!
Parking to your own tune
Seventh Ave and 1st St, Brooklyn. Observed by jsi on Fri, May 11 2007
Car was parked on 5-11-07 at 5:20 PM inn a crosswalk and near a fire hydrant and in a No Parking Anytime zone with a parking permit for the 75 precinct. It was parked at Seventh Ave and 1st St which is in the 78 precinct. I guess the official business was which restaurant to go to without finding a legal spot.

He's Baaaack
N.E. corner of 93rd and West End, Manhattan. Observed by hanuman on Sat, Apr 21 2007
A week after the last sighting, this fellow is again parked in the non-space he routinely occupies -- in a crosswalk, too close to a hydrant, and with an illegal permit -- and why shouldn't he? He can flout the law with impunity, thanks to traffic officers who won't ticket him and a precinct captain who won't make those in his command obey the law. It's ordinary cronyism, ordinary corruption -- quite conventient, and a real penny-saver: no costly garage bills.
Triple Play
93rd St. and West End Ave., Manhattan. Observed by hanuman on Sat, Apr 14 2007
This car efficiently violates three laws simultaneously -- parked in a crosswalk, parked too close to a hydrant, illegal use of permit -- at the north-east corner of 93rd St. & West End Avenue. It occupies this non-space scores of times a year, and has for the past few years, never receiving a ticket.
Parked in... the intersection.
State St. and Smith St., Brooklyn. Observed by boerum hill blues on Sat, Apr 14 2007
So, props to this guy (or gal) for carefully not blocking the sidewalk or the crosswalk (a frequent practice here near the house of detention). But I guess nobody reminded them that it's illegal to park in the middle of the intersection.
There's no violation code for "parked in intersection" (who could imagine doing this?) so it's coded "parked in crosswalk".
BOILING POINT REACHED AT CENTRAL PARK
105th street and 5th avenue, Manhattan. Observed by FlowerPower on Fri, Mar 30 2007
[Admin note: we absolutely do not condone provoking confrontations of this sort. This is a great way to be injured, arrested or worse. At the same time, the response by the illegal parkers described is unacceptable and shows that the use of this illegal parking has become institutionalized.]
Sometime ago a few of us who deplore the sidewalk parkers of the Conservatory Gardens took it upon ourselves to do something about it. What we did was decided to block the only crosswalk cut out being used to enter the sidewalk with our own personal cars. It would intail myself or a friend parking there in the a.m and refusing to move for any car that wanted to park on the sidewalk. On the first day we were ordered by a park ranger to move but he had no jurisdiction to move us. I implored him to call the real police and he just walked away. By the end of day one, we had won and denied them access to the sidewalk but on day two it was a loss for us. What the employees of the Parks and Recreation did was park a suburban truck in the crosswalk and left it there all day. I watched as when one of their own wanted access to the sidewalk they would go get the owner of the car from 1 E 104 street and move it. They were using this car as a gate.
To bad for them I was there to catch their illegal activities.(see above foto) These dastardly employees of the park will do anything to park on the sidewalk. Who the hell do they think they are?
We need some sort of intervention by the city Govt before matters reach an extreme boiling point at this spot.
Blocking the crosswalk and the sidewalk surely is an infraction in this city? Isn't it?

Another Borrowed Permit in the Crosswalk
Central Park West and West 61st Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Wed, Feb 28 2007
Once again, NYPD restricted placard holder parking a car with plates that do not match the plate designated on the placard, in the crosswalk and blocking the curb cut. Inconveniencing and endangering wheelchair users and other pedestrians. The cars parked on either side of this guy are partially in the crosswalk as well.

You Can Borrow My Permit . . . Just Make Sure to Park Illegally
Central Park West and West 61st Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Fri, Feb 23 2007
This permit entitles the holder to park a car with plates C**-***9. However the owner (or someone else) is using the permit to park a different vehicle, with plates A**-***9. Putting this mismatch aside, the more immediate problem (especially if you are a wheelchair user) is the parking in the crosswalk that completely blocks the curb cut.
