mismatch in license plate. this is a chronic problem with this car in this location. since 311 calls are ineffective, the next step will be to call the USPS Office of Inspector General.

The police precinct across the street always takes advantage of whatever space they can. If it's not their private cars in front of the fire hydrant, it's their three wheeled carts on the sidewalk.

Parked on hollow sidewalk every day
536 west 20 street, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Mon, Mar 10 2008
Six months ago I first posted photos of the daily parking violations of these state prison guards:
http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/2874
http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/2176
Six months later, they still park in the crosswalk, they still double and triple park, and now they even park on the sidewalk directly in front of signs that say: DANGER! DON'T PARK ON SIDEWALK AREA HOLLOW UNDERNEATH
Of course if their illegally-parked vehicles were to suddenly go crashing down into the abyss due to their illegal and negligent actions, they'd likely turn right around and sue the State of New York claiming they were required to drive their vehicles to work and were merely using [illegal] parking permits issued by their union!
On sidewalk and blocking ramp
lafayette and st felix place, Brooklyn. Observed by mbroughton02 on Fri, Mar 07 2008
It says right on this guy's permit that it is valid for No Standing zones, No Parking Anytime, and meters. I can't seem to find anything indicating that it is ok to park on the sidewalk, blocking the ramp to the curb. Someone in a wheelchair would have found this most unfortunate. It is also interesting that this is right next to BAM around evening showtime- I bet he was seeing a show.

Brooklyn BP, Marty Markowitz, Illegally Parked on Sidewalk Outside Borough Hall
Joralemon Street and Court Street, Brooklyn. Observed by Wright on Fri, Jan 11 2008
Last night I went to Borough Hall to attend an open house for the Downtown Brooklyn Transportation Blueprint Study. A priority initiative of the blueprint is the “introduction of a package of new effective strategies to deal with permit parking abuse in Downtown Brooklyn.” (action #19)
As I left the event, I noticed another car parked on the sidewalk outside Borough Hall that wasn’t there earlier. It stuck out from the other permit abusers who illegally park on the sidewalk because it belongs to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz (the vanity license plates make this clear). It’s completely irresponsible for Marty to publicly flaunt his illegal parking while the City is trying to stop permit parking abuse. I think it’s even more outrageous that he would do this while DOT is inside, presenting initiatives to stop parking scofflaws like himself.

Convent Ave. and 135th St., Manhattan. Observed by richbiker on Tue, Jan 08 2008
I didn't check for permits, but at PS 161 in Harlem on Convent Ave., these school staff park on the sidewalk every day; as with anything free and unrestricted, there's more cars parked on the sidewalk now than last spring. Another school 2 blocks south on Convent has zero cars parked on the sidewalk; I never see it there.

Pretty common with this post office. They often park on the sidewalk and double-park.
I suspect that this guy is also committing insurance fraud because he's had the same South Carolina plates for over a year. His older Cadillac also had South Carolina plates for several years. Something tells me he's not commuting from the The Palmetto State every day.
I filed a 311 ticket.

Pedestraisn have to navigate cars ont he sidewalk here, everyday. I'm not sure whether a wheelchair could get through. And, of course, there is a pay lot right there.
The firefighters ought to have first dibs on all the legal parking spaces on this small half-block, and should be prevented from parking on the sidewalk or in the bike lane opposite the scene pictured in the photo.

52nd Precinct to public: if you don't like my parking, get off the sidewalk
Mosholu Parkway and Theodore Kazimiroff, Bronx. Observed by StreetWalker on Sat, Oct 06 2007
The 52nd Precinct has a parking lot for NYPD officer's private vehicles, that is reached from the Mosholu Parkway bridge over the Metro-North tracks. But cops routinely use the sidewalk on the bridge as well. This sidewalk is also part of the Mosholu-Pelham Greenway path, so the efficient cops have found a way to interefere with both pedestrians and cyclists at the same time!
USPS parks on the sidewalk all the time
13th st and avenue A, Manhattan. Observed by lawandorder on Sat, Oct 20 2007
The employees at the Peter Stuyvesant Station Post Office on 14th/13th St frequently park official and private vehicles on the sidewalk. They double-park their private cars a lot too, especially during street cleaning, and spend a lot of time moving or sitting in their private cars, instead of working.
I haven't bothered to take any pictures until now.
There's also a few local residents with stolen/copied USPS placards, who park illegally with impunity.

55 Hanson Place, Brooklyn. Observed by blueeyeguy on Tue, Sep 25 2007
They came out in force on South Elliott Place in Fort Greene on Tuesday. The Black Crown Vic in the middle is parked on the sidewalk almost every day, the Taurus was previously reported, and bringing up the rear is a van with some workers or contractors. The area has many reserved spots for state vehicles, and is adjacent to almost every subway line in the city across the street at Atlantic Ave. and around the corner on Fulton Street.
State of Emergency
55 Hanson Place, Brooklyn. Observed by blueeyeguy on Fri, Sep 21 2007
There is constantly a car with official plates parked on the sidwalk adjacent to the State Office Building on Hanson Place in Brooklyn (on the South Elliot side ). I understand this is illegal except in emergency, so is there some constant emergency at that location? The sidewalk appears to be vaulted so it is not just unsightly and an inconvenience, it is potentially dangerous.

Police parked on sidewalks
33 Bowery, Manhattan. Observed by ChrisChu on Mon, Jun 11 2007
On the East side of the Bowery on the block between Canal and Bayard Streets, police from the 5th Precint park their personal cars on a daily basis. Most have a Temporary Permit issued by the 5th precint in their windshields, with matching license plates, but on occasion, the permits are missing altogether or license plates on permit does not match the one on vehicle. Large SUVs often impede wheelchair and baby stroller access.
Parking on the sidewalk
10024, Manhattan. Observed by handsome1 on Fri, Jun 08 2007
I have lived in this building for almost 30 years, right next to a fire house Ladder Co. 25, a car parking garage and a National Car Rental. EVERYBODY feels free to park on the sidewalk, but the firefighters do so with impunity. This car has been parked in front of my building, on the sidewalk on the corner of W. 77th and Amsterdam for over 36 hours. None of the Traffic Cops will ticket any of these cars parked illegally on the sidewalk. HELP!!
NYPD Personally Owned Vehicles Parked on the Sidewalk Everyday on West 54th
West 54th Street and 8th Avenue, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Tue, Jun 05 2007
Just another day on West 54th Street. Here's a prior post of the same spot, facing West:
http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/637
The precinct has illegally painted stripes for angle parking which extend up onto the sidewalk. Everyday, more than half the sidewalk is taken up by the cars. They don't just park official NYPD vehicles here, they park personally-owned vehicles used for commuting, using NYPD restricted placards.
The official NYPD vehicles are stored 24/7 in the bike lane around the corner on Eighth Avenue, outside of the SEZ:
http://nyc.mybikelane.com/post/index/589
So what we've got is the personlly owned vehicles of NYPD (1) taking up the curbide spaces directly across from the precinct that could be and should be reserved for RMPs responding to emergencies and/or transporting prisoners; (2) squeezing the pedestrians into a tiny strip of sidewalk; and (3) forcing the RMPs into the bike lane around the corner which is not part of the SEZ, endangering bicyclists and messing upt traffic for everyone.
All so that the guys who own these cars can have a shorter morning walk from car to precinct.

The Selfish Enforcement Zone
West 236th Street and Kingsbridge Ave, Bronx, NY 10463, Bronx. Observed by StreetWalker on Mon, Apr 30 2007
50th Precinct in the Bronx at West 236th Street and Kingsbridge Ave has completely taken over West 236th Street's sidewalks.
The other side of 236th Street, where the precinct is, is also blocked with police vehicles like ESU trucks (see right side of photo). A pedestrian has to either walk into the street or climb into McDonald's parking lot and then climb back when a gap appears in the sidewalk parking.
Their SEZ enforcement seems very lax - many of the cars pictured here do not display any permits at all. I also saw many NYPD RPP permits without the license number filled in, and one or two expired permits.
Often there are cars left on the corners blocking the crosswalk. Yellow lines (like the one visible in the foreground are painted on the pavement to remind the cops not to park there. Note the second painted yellow line to the right of the motorcycle - that is supposed to keep cars from blocking the hydrant (hard to see but it's behind the motorcycle somewhere).
Well, it is the Armed Forces.
