dropping off the kid

West 83rd Street between CPW and Columbus, Manhattan. Observed by Pluck on Fri, Mar 23 2007

At approximately 9:00am on Friday, March 23rd, this non-official car was parked in front of the Rodolf Sholom Synagogue and school—also in front of a fire hydrant. The occupant was clearly dropping off a child for school. There was no emergency or investigation going on. I'm not sure if the permit is even valid, because it doesn't match up exactly to the sample on your site. See my photos.

This was removed earlier.

Why would this picture get deleted?? If you look closely you can see the offending officer in the window.

There may be someone on the "inside" friendly to illegals. I think I smell an agenda.

Private Parking for BSTF at Hydrant

Don't bother calling 311 on this one. Numerous calls demonstrate that local police would rather claim the vehicle was moved than issue a summons. This vehicle regularly treats this fire hydrant as personal property. This endangers everyone on our narrow residential street and inconveniences the elderly, the disabled, and anyone else trying to unload into the adjacent lobby.

NYPD Violation

Here is an example of a NYPD permit abuser! He/she parks in front of a fire hydrant which is a violation. NYPD gives people tickets if they are parked close to the hydrant so why don't they practice what they preach?

Traffic van spends the weekend parked at hydrant

On St. Patrick's Day, it seemed this traffic van was sitting out the parade and the weekend covered in snow blocking a hydrant on Worth Street near Broadway.

What official business does a Bronx Court Section permit bearer has in the lower east side? regardless, that doesnt give this person right to park at the hydrant.

Weekend Pump Parker

71 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn. Observed by FedUp on Sun, Mar 18 2007

Main_post_1087 Ribbon_hazard

This cop from the 94th Precinct repeatedly parks at this fire hydrant in front of an elementary school EVERY weekend. He doesn't move it for 2 days. I've called the local precinct (94th) and they said they have given him a ticket (false). I've gone to the local fire house and they haven't done anything either. I've called 311 and they keep telling me to contact the precint. Just because he is a cop doesn't give him the right!

Fire Hydrant Blocked

One of a dozen illegally parked cars with police permits, this guy (or gal) even had the guts to block a hydrant.

Invisible Fire Hydrant

The cops from the substation across the street park in front of our hydrants daily. Perhaps they are wearing the special "hydrant-x-ray vision goggles" provided by the NYPD and can't see what's there!

Cop at a Fire Hydrant

Another of the 19th precincts finest thumbing his nose at the law and the safety of Fire Fighters and residents. This is right in front of 1160 Third Avenue.

What Would Hippocrates Say?

West End Avenue and 78th Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Wed, Dec 13 2006

Main_post_1557 Ribbon_hazard

This guy, apparently an "honorary police surgeon," has written two different plate numbers into his pass, and is parked right in front of a hydrant. Not very "honorable." Didn't Hippocrates teach us to do no harm?

Standards/Appeals Candy Store Run

Eighth Ave. and West 53rd Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sun, Dec 17 2006

Main_post_561 Ribbon_hazard

This DOT placard holder figures that he can park in the bike lane next to the hydrant without risking a ticket for blocking the hydrant. But in fact, he's creating two safety hazards (for bicyclists as well as nearby residents) instead of one.

He waddled out of the candy shop as I was photo'ing his placard. When I questioned his parking he argued in defense that he was not abusing his placard, because the placard does not entitle him to park where he was (thanks for the admission!). So why is it on your dash, buddy--don't you see the fine print at the bottom stating it is a "felony" to misuse the permit?

In this NO PERMIT ZONE, this irresponsible lawbreaker parks on a hydrant and blocks an intersection - a school bus was blocked for 15-20 minutes. If that bus were a FIRE TRUCK, injury or death could easily have occurred as a result of illegal parking.

Hydrant Hog Cop at Time of Fire Alarm

1160 Third Ave 10021, Manhattan. Observed by Dick Tracy on Sun, Jan 07 2007

Main_post_1563 Ribbon_hazard

Police officer private vehicle blocking free access to fire hydrant at the time of an alarm. Perhaps he was confused and thought the law was 15 inches rather than 15 feet.

This officer put citizens and Fireman at risk,

NY's finest, hardly. This above the law attitude by the very people assigned to uphold the law is absurd and cannot be tolerated. His car should have been towed and scrapped.
