The bus stop that became a parking spot
Pennsylvania ave and Vandahlia Ave, Brooklyn. Observed by Haircharm on Fri, May 14 2010
For the last (3) three months everyweek day morning there is a passenger vehicle with a peach colored NYPD plaque inside of drivers side windshield, parked in the bus stop at the fire hydrant on Pennsylvania Ave, in Starrett City, near the corner of Vandahlia ave. There are (4) different buses that utilize this stop. B83/ B82 / BM5 / BM2 - This is a busy commuter stop Mon - Fri and the buses can not pull up to stop. They have to remain in street to load passengers. If two buses arrive they have to line up behind each other with folks spilling out into the street to board because this un-civil-servant- has designated this as their personal parking spot. How selfish can you get, this is clearly blatant abuse. That plaque only allows this individual to park in or near their precinct station house. Never a "Bus stop", or "Fire Hydrant" - heh you...if you are reading this, stop being cheap-Starrett City provides private parking spaces. Stop endangering and inconveniencing commuters and bus operators. TEA needs to give this vehicle a ticket.
Church Permit Double Parked in Bus Stop
w 153rd and Amsterdam ave, Manhattan. Observed by JUptown on Sun, Mar 01 2009
This car has an illegal church parking permit, which he/she thinks makes it legal to double park in a bus stop. The vehicle also has windshield stickers for the New York State Correctional Officers Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA), Detectives Endowment Association for NYPD, a handicapped permit for the Town of Babylon, and an American flag just to cover all bases.

184 Avenue A, Manhattan. Observed by lawandorder on Tue, Sep 09 2008
Pretty common site. This driver has moved from parking in front of hydrants and in no parking zones, to parking in the bus stop across the street. This fraudster has now affixed several pins to his fake federal law enforcement placard -- how cute.
The geniuses at 311 marked down my complaint as an "illegal bus layover". Of course, the 9th precinct said they didn't find anything in violation, without even bothering to leave the precinct house.

The bus is for losers. Don't you have a Lexus like me?
3rd Ave. and 77th, Brooklyn. Observed by Buttle on Sat, May 03 2008
This permit authorizes a different vehicle, not this one. Might be fake, too, because it looks a bit flimsy and off color for a NYPD placard. Or maybe a cop gave copies to his other family members...

This vehicle is allowed to park at a bus stop. The two cars behind get the 115.00 ticket but because this person has a court officer permit they don't get the ticket.

US government parks in Bus Stop, sets bad example
520 west 18 street, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Tue, Nov 20 2007
It's an open secret that the federal government has increased its presence in far-west Chelsea in recent years. What's not a secret is that officers and agents increasingly are observed abusing our city's traffic signage and exercising poor judgment when parking. There are numerous signed spaces where federal agents and officers can park their official vehicles in this area. There are additionally ample places in No Parking areas where they do not disrupt traffic flow or pedestrians. Moreover, there are ample garage spaces. At 5 p.m. office workers were streaming out of IAC headquarters down the street, and eight people were already waiting for the bus on West 18th Street. Even though there are ample spaces in the No Parking zones on both sides of this block and neighboring blocks for federal officials to choose from, this official instead chose to park right smack in the bus stop, making the evening commute more difficult for commuters and bus drivers alike. He wasn't the only one, either; parked in front of this vehicle was a car with DC plates and a police permit. Parked behind it was a car with NY plates and a police permit. Such egregious conduct makes tired commuters outraged at the inflated sense of entitlement a few bad apples have.
Private Parking
15th Street and 8th ave, Brooklyn. Observed by Peter on Sun, Nov 11 2007
This huge navigator parks in a no parking zone that is also a bus stop at the end of the street. You can see the the direction of the arrow on the sign. Funny but the car behind is also a NYPD permit that is parked to close to a Hydrant ( tech issue on those pics) but no worry that car parks there all the time also. I guess the officers live close on the block and use this spot to park all the time. Please not the permit plate # does not match the plate, since this one has 3 Three cars that the permit is transffered when they need to park one of them illegally. It is just funny since I see others try to park in the small legal area between the hydrant and the sign and even if it is a Mini Copper they get a ticket, but not the Jetta or the Navigator.
NYPD Technical Support parks in bus stop every Sunday
273 lafayette st, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Sun, Nov 11 2007
UPDATED December 9, 2007: Having observed this vehicle parked for a fourth time in this bus stop on a Sunday, it would seem safe to say this guy believes he owns the permanent right, title and interest to parking in this bus stop. Anyone object?
ORIGINAL POST OF November 11, 2007: There is no precinct within 1/2 mile of this bus stop on Lafayette Street next to the Otto Tootsi Plohound shoe store, where this Jeep was spotted on Sunday. What sort of Technical Support is being provided in this area that merits parking in a bus stop? It was also recently spotted in a different illegal parking space. The permit was also placed upside-down on the dashboard that would have made it even more difficult for NYPD to write a written violation. A very cursory glance at this and the next block indicated there were legal parking spots.
The registration sticker expired 10/31/07. So in addtion to granting himself free parking, the owner appears to believe he's also above the law when it comes to re-registering your vehicle in a timely manner. Any other civilian would be subject to a fine having an expired sticker for eleven days; I've witnessed NYPD on multiple occasions ticketing cars on the first of the month for expired registrations. Just a few months ago I saw another case of expired registration syndrome: http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/2380
**UPDATE November 18, 2007: Vehicle owner parked in the exact same spot on Sunday 11/18 and was observed taking up even more of the bus stop at 7:30 pm. As it was dark no photos were taken. Clearly this guy has an axe to grind.
Fifth Precinct parks in bus stop
50 bowery, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Sun, Nov 04 2007
Seen on the Bowery near Canal Street on Sunday afternoon, directly across from the huge condominium complex to/from which elderly and handicapped do take buses that do run on Sundays. Think this is unusual? Think again. Around the corner on the north side of Canal Street two private vehicles with Fifth Precinct placards were parked in the handicapped bus stop (so denoted with a wheelchair symbol on the sign). The Fifth Precinct is well served by J,M,N,Q,R,W,Z,6 trains, most of which do run on Sundays.
[moderator's note: the placard has two plate numbers listed on it, making it invalid]
