Still have a few dirty cops

Despite a lot of work by the community, our elected officials, and IAB, the Dirty Five-Two still won't pass up an opportunity to give their lying, cheating buddies a free pass!

MTA Police placard used to park illegally at a difficult turn on a narrow residential street. Basic common sense would dictate that an FDNY truck may need to be able to make a turn ON A BLOCK WHERE A BUILDING ALREADY BURNED TO THE GROUND!!!

But does the Dirty Five-Two care? Absolutely not! They're obviously more interested in being best buds with their dirty cop brothers everywhere.

Let's get real - it is you JOB to ticket ANYONE parked illegally. Don't care if they're job is being a cop. That doesn't mean they can break the law - it makes it that much more important that they do not break the law!

If they can't do the job, they need to be fired. In this economy, we can find plenty of honest, brave New Yorkers who will actually enforce the law, instead of breaking it!

Things have been getting better in Norwood. Far, far fewer illegally parked cops in the neighborhood, and they ticketed an illegally parked car with a DOT placard this morning.

And yet...
This morning, a car with a placard from "Headquarters" parked right in the middle of a NO PARKING ANYTIME zone.

Just as the precinct starts to clean up its act, someone from downtown shows up to break the law.

Black BMW operator displays NYPD placard with different plate than on vehicle, parks for hours in "No Standing Anytime" zone, adjacent to school facility, 2 malls and at the merge point of 2 streets that carry major mall traffic overflow. This was site of injury accident 12/2006, in part due to blind spots, reckless driving and jaywalking. This is irresponsible behavior of one who is supposed to protect the public, but rather chooses to throw the public away in order to support a small personal convenience and cost savings (the mall parking is across the street (90th Street). He, in shorts and a bright yellow shirt, and his female companion, finally show up with packages that he stowed in his trunk, before driving arrogantly off - celebrating the fact that no summons or tow occurred.

Sometimes the dirty cops are so thick, you can't even get to the end of one block without coming across another one.

Apologies the photo isn't a little more clear. If you look, you can see the No Parking Anytime sign - the vehicle in question is the white one down at the corner. Clearly parked illegally.

Dirty Five-Two simply does not care. One dirty cop parked next to another, and they leave them all alone.

They're too busy ticketing the taxpayers who pay them for (maybe) parking a few inches too far the wrong way.

Meanwhile, the cops are breaking the law all over the place, up and down the street, around the corner... you name it, there's a dirty cop parked there!

Half of the reason the streets are literally so dirty is that with all the dirty cops parked, the street sweepers can't clean properly.

Welcome to the filthy world we live in, thanks to the Dirty Five-Two!

Still walking down the same street, here's dirty cop number 3!

This is nowhere near any precinct. Certainly not the 49th Precinct that issued this restricted parking permit.

This is also the second day in a row this dirty cop parked on this part of this same block illegally (he blocked the fire hydrant yesterday morning).

Clearly not on any "official business" here...

Just breaking the law to park more conveniently because the Dirty Five-Two lets him get away with it. No regard for the danger it poses for everyone in the community. No interest in any basic semblance of professionalism either.

Three blocks this morning, and we've got three dirty cops. In a precinct where they're all dirty enough to let these jokers get away with it in broad day light.

It is really bad when you can't walk a single block without seeing a cop break the law.

In fact, other than cops breaking the law on every block, I didn't see any criminal behavior this morning at all!

The only crime was the dirty cops in our neighborhood! Welcome to the Dirty Five-Two!!!

This guy parks illegally almost every day. When he isn't in the NO PARKING ANYTIME zone like this morning, he's blocking a nearby hydrant.

He doesn't even have a parking permit from the NYPD. He just throws a bunch of trashy looking NYPD junk on the dash.

What does the Dirty Five-Two do? They give him a free pass.

If you decorate your car with enough NYPD junk, apparently you can park anywhere you want. Who cares what the law says... obviously not those paid to enforce it!

Come on!

One-third of the car in a NO PARKING ANYTIME zone might not be a big deal, if they weren't ticketing civilians for a matter of inches every day of the week.

It might not be a big deal if he didn't insist on parking illegally every day.

But this guy refuses to park legally, and the Dirty Five-Two refuses to ticket him.

And he doesn't even have a real NYPD placard!!! The guy just throws a bunch of NYPD crap on the dashboard.

Yesterday afternoon he was blocking a hydrant. Not ticketed. He moved from the hydrant, and was in the NO PARKING ANYTIME zone by the morning. Still not ticketed.

Other cars on the block had been ticketed.

I guess if you suck up to the NYPD, you don't get ticketed. Their own little power trip here in the Dirty Five-Two!

Dirty plate, dirty placard, dirty precinct

valentine and 201, Bronx. Observed by norwoodcitizen on Thu, Jul 08 2010

Main_post_19913

Let's start with the illegal dark cover over the license plate, intended to prevent the red light cameras from ticketing this dirty cop when he runs red lights with his personal vehicle.

(Reminder from the DMV:
http://nysdmv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nysdmv.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=184)

(Note that if he was on official business that required running a red light, he could easily have a photo dismissed, so the cover is clearly meant to allow him to break the law!)

Then there's the fact he's parked illegally in a NO STANDING ANYTIME zone that is necessary for visibility at an irregular intersection.

And he has a placard issued to an entirely different vehicle in the windshield (trying to obscure the license plate it was issued to) to keep the dirty cops from ticketing him while parked dangerously.

Finally, there is the Dirty Five-Two, which steadfastly refuses to do anything to protect the public from all the dirty cops in our community.

As usual, the people we see breaking the law are all dirty cops!

The Dirty Five-Two In Action

Jerome Avenue and Minerva Place, Bronx. Observed by norwoodcitizen on Wed, Jul 07 2010

Main_post_19892

Oops! That should read:
"The Dirty Five-Two Inaction!!!"

Cop cart pulled up alongside an illegally parked vehicle. Did not bother to even look at the placard (clearly the umpteenth time driving by this afternoon). Sat at the red light for the entire time to turn green only inches away from the illegally parked vehicle. Drove right off without doing their job.

All caught on camera.

Before somebody starts complaining that it is hard to read the NO PARKING ANYTIME sign directly above the illegally parked vehicle in the one photo posted here, rest assured there is adequate detail submitted to verify the vehicle was violating the posted parking regulations.

Also note this is not a self-enforcement zone. And the placard in the windshield was from an entirely different precinct anyway.

No excuse for the vehicle to be parked there. Even less for the Dirty Five-Two to stop just inches away, sit there for an entire signal light, and drive away without doing their job.

The commanding officers for this area should be ashamed of pictures like this!!!

This guy is a regular. And still the Dirty Five-Two seems thoroughly unwilling to ticket him on their own.

He was documented parking illegally in this same area on 5/30, 6/12, and 6/27. He was ticketed on 6/27 after sustained pressure through several channels.

Yet again today he is sitting there, illegally parked under a NO STANDING ANYTIME zone with a placard that does not allow parking in a no standing zone. The placard, as the Dirty Five-Two knows perfectly well, does not even belong to this vehicle!

But they still won't ticket it, unless somebody absolutely forces them.

There needs to be accountability. After all this discussion and cooperation from the community abused by these dirty cops, if any officer passes this car without ticketing it, he should be fired on the spot.

Doing this part of the job is not hard at all. If they won't even do the easy parts of the job, they don't deserve a penny of our hard earned tax money!

Here's a vehicle with a placard from Midtown South. Maybe he's just lost? This part of the Bronx kind of looks like it could be a self-enforcement zone in Midtown South, right?

Yeah, sure. Oh, and he's parked directly below a bright red sign that says "NO STANDING ANYTIME" in all capital letters. A self-enforcement placard doesn't allow police officers to legally park in NO STANDING zones. Maybe he just can't read?

Or maybe he's just another dirty cop, taking advantage of the lack of integrity in the Dirty Five-Two.

The Dirty Five-Two - breaking the law every day. It's so much more fun than enforcing it!

Remembering Our Nation's Birthday?

reservoir oval east and holt place, Bronx. Observed by norwoodcitizen on Sun, Jul 04 2010

Main_post_19844

On this great Fourth of July, we remember the birth of the first democratic nation on Earth, dedicated to the rule of Law.

Well, at least some of us do.

Then there are the same dirty cops who could care less about anything other than themselves. For the second day in a row, this dirty cop drove the car he just bought and parked it in front of the entrance to the park.

Kids have to walk in the street. Mothers with strollers have to dodge cars. Dog walkers try to keep their pets from getting run over. All because this guy was too lazy to walk about fifty feet.

That's right. There were several open parking spaces a mere fifty feet away. He parked while I was in the park, so I could see the empty, legal parking spots he drove past to go park illegally, blocking the entrance into the park.

On our nation's birthday, while the rest of us are celebrating our Independence from an abusive form of government that disregarded the Will of the People, this dirty cop is instead violating that very will. The Law, as enacted by our duly elected representatives, is clearly posted on the sign: NO STANDING ANYTIME.

But the Law, the very spirit of our nation, is meaningless to this dirty cop. Even on this, our Nation's birthday.

What a disgraceful reminder of how we must be ever vigilant of the abuse of power!!!

Dirty cop wants to show off his new car (temporary registration taped in the front windshield next to the placard from a different precinct).

Free parking spots all over the place, but he's going to block the entrance into the park. Either he's too lazy to walk 30 feet, or he really, really wants to make everybody gets a good view of the Infinity. They might be a little distracted trying not to get hit by traffic while walking in the street, though!

(NO STANDING ANYTIME clearly posted, pavement is hatched to be used by pedestrians because there is no sidewalk.)

The Precinct know all about the problems at this location. We remind them all the time. And, it is just a basic part of their job as officers sworn to enforce the law, after all.

Despite the basic commons sense, and the constant reminders and community pressure, they still do not ticket - unless somebody calls. Even then it's hit or miss whether they'll actually enforce the law against "one of their own."

Just another day in the Dirty Five-Two!

Close the Budget Gap by Enforcing Existing Laws

This guy is good for $115.

Imagine, if they simply issued summonses and towed a significant fraction of these cops parking illegally, we could go a long way toward closing the budget gap.

Why increase class sizes? Why close senior centers? Just make people who are breaking the law pay the penalties they are legally required to pay!

Of course, they would eventually start parking legally, and the City would lose this revenue. But the economy should come back, so simply enforcing the law seems like it might not be a bad way to help bridge the financial gap.

Oh, and it's also kind of their job to enforce the law too.

How hard is it to get the NYPD to enforce the law? I have seen this car parked on the same spot on a 'No Standing' zone on my way to work every day for at least two years (actually, it's not the same car; he had a red Lexus before buying this 2009 model a few months ago). The permit is from the Police Department of the City of New York School Safety Division, and expired December 31, 2009. The permit appears to be a photocopy, with the license plate handwritten at the bottom. It is placed upside down under the registration and inspection certificate, so it is hard to see.

The car is parked there all day, because i sometimes see it still there on my way home. I have never in all this time seen him get a ticket.

Of particular irony is that he parks illegally right next to a parking garage, and that the vanity license plate makes it clear that the owner is very religious.

Obscuring the Daylight

Douglass Street at Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn. Observed by ParkSlope on Thu, Dec 03 2009

Main_post_16744 Ribbon_fake

Several months ago, in response to a civilian request, NYC DOT daylighted the northwest corners of both Douglass Street and Fifth Avenue and Baltic Street and Fifth Avenue as a safety measure. Unfortunately, both corners are frequently occupied by illegally parked cars.

Both streets run eastbound across Fifth Avenue, and both are offset, with the streets on the east side of Fifth Avenue about 20 feet north of the streets on the west side of Fifth. This creates a dangerous situation, in which cars heading to and through the intersection can't see pedestrians in or entering the crosswalk until they're nearly in the intersection, and vice versa. The daylighting of the corners vastly improved visibility -- which is negated when a vehicle parks illegally at the corner.

Today, the spot on the northwest corner of Douglass at Fifth Avenue was occupied by a late-model silver Toyota RAV4, with a police permit that appeared to be photocopied. The space is marked No Standing Anytime.

Unsurprisingly, the corresponding spot at Baltic and Fifth Avenue was also occupied by a van, which totally obscured the intersection (it did not sport a placard -- just Pennsylvania plates). I pointed it out to a passing Traffic Enforcement Agent, who wrote a ticket. When I mentioned the RAV4 with the parking placard at Douglass, she rolled her eyes, said that TEAs hate placard parkers because they park everywhere with no regard, but said there was "nothing they can do."

Private parking spot ?

Riverside Drive and West 104th street, Manhattan. Observed by citizen on Thu, Nov 05 2009

I guess all you need to do is to put a EMT jacket in your rear window and file for a EMT license plate to have a guaranteed private parking spot. This guy has done it for over a year now and has the greatest deal of the century.

This car parks here every evening in a clearly labeled "No Parking Anytime" zone and apparently never receives a ticket. He doesn't even move the car for alternate side of the street street cleaning while the rest of us are moving our cars around the block and waiting for hours to park again. The one time I asked a local 24th precinct cop about it he said that there was nothing he could do.

Daily abuse of permit

This car is parked daily on Ascan Ave in Queens between Queens Blvd and Austin St. where there is daily alternate side of the street parking and 2 hour meter. This car abuses their permit on a daily basis. They do not move it for alternate side of the street parking or pay the meter ever. Every time I say something to a traffic cop about it they say there is nothing they can do because it has a permit when you can clearly see that it is not here on official business considering it is here everyday.

On date/time picture was taken is a Federal holiday and all city agencies are closed hence should be ticketed on that day all day!!
